Safe Space Community Conversations with Girls and Women- Breaking the Silence around SRHR.
KPWG facilitated a powerful Safe Space Community Conversation with adolescent girls and women in Nsanje. The session was part of our broader mission to create platforms that promote inclusive, rights-based discussions on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), including access to safe abortion.
Facilitated by Edna Maloya from the Nsanje District Health Office and Mike Dansa, Chairperson of the Nsanje Civil Society Network, the session encouraged participants to share their lived experiences in a confidential, supportive setting.
Key highlights included:
Open discussions about the risks of unsafe abortion and barriers to accessing care.
Personal stories that reflected resilience and a shared desire for better SRHR services.
Increased confidence among participants to claim their rights and seek out accurate information.
A collective call for more frequent engagements and access to safe spaces where girls and women feel seen and supported.
The safe space was more than just a discussion, it was a moment of truth, healing, and courage. Many girls and women shared their deeply personal stories, stories of pain, resilience, and hope. These conversations revealed the urgent need for continued awareness, access to accurate information, and services that prioritize dignity, safety, and rights. This session reaffirmed the importance of community-based dialogue and participatory approaches in addressing harmful norms, dispelling myths, and empowering women and girls.
KPWG remains committed to sustaining these safe spaces, amplifying community voices, and pushing for policies that protect and promote the rights of all women and girls.
We thank our funders AmplifyChange, our facilitators, and the Nsanje community for making this moment possible.
